This series consists of sound recordings of performances of folks singers, madrigal signers, a capella choirs, African-American choruses, light and grand opera companies, symphony orchestras, concert bands, dance bands, and other groups of the Federal Music Project, many with intermission talks by prominent persons about the work of the Work Projects Administration (WPA). It also includes sound recordings of radio programs broadcast by the Federal Theater Project, including productions of "R.U.R.," "Bolero," "Hamlet," and "Murder in the Cathedral;" speeches, interviews, and special programs on the subject of the WPA and its organizations or functions, or as part of productions by or for the WPA; programs in the radio series "Their Greatest Stories," "History in Action," "Epic of America," "Pioneers of Science," and "Portraits in Oil;" and programs in the series "Friends and Neighbors" sponsored by the Democratic National Committee in support of New Deal programs; and special programs on national defense during 1941.

Nellie Davis Tayloe Ross (November 29, 1876 – December 19, 1977) was an American politician, the 14th governor of Wyoming from 1925 to 1927 and director of the United States Mint from 1933 to 1953. She was the first woman to be sworn in as governor of a U.S. state, and remains the only woman to have served as governor of Wyoming.
